- EFL League One Wigan
Wigan Athletic return to League One action this weekend as they welcome Peterborough United to the Brick Community Stadium. After a determined midweek performance in the Carabao Cup, Ryan Lowe’s side will be aiming to carry that momentum into the league after a not so inspiring 2-0 defeat to 24/25 Playoff Finalists Leyton Orient which also saw Steven Sessegnon bag a red card as well as an own goal.
Current Standings and Recent Form
Wigan Athletic: 12th
Wigan Athletics’ season has gotten off to an interesting start to say the least. A heavy metal 3-1 win over Northampton on opening day, which showcased one of the best Wigan performances I have seen for a long time. Our form then dipped with a defeat to Leyton orient, which was just a very bad day at the office. However, midweek saw us regain some confidence with a win over Notts County which saw us progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Peterborough United: 21st
Peterborough’s start to the season has been nothing short of a disaster, with Darren Ferguson’s side failing to register a win so far this campaign. Defeat against Cardiff & Luton, has massively impacted the morale and confidence of the side, and further defeat to Accrington in midweek has done them no favours.
Head-to-Head Record
Wigan Wins: 13
Draws: 7
Peterborough United Wins: 5

Players to Watch
Wigan Athletic:
- Morgan Fox – Still yet to make an appearance for Wigan since joining as a free agent, a player I cannot wait to see in action.
- Tobias Brenan – His starts have come as quite a surprise, but he has delivered & it will be interesting to see if he keeps getting picked for the starting XI.
- Fraser Murray – The Scotsman got off to a fantastic start to Wigan life, with a brace against Northampton, regardless off the Leyton Orient performance, I feel he’s set for a bright performance on Saturday.
- Christian Saydee – Still due, a first Wigan goal, and Saturday is no better time to get it, let’s all get behind the lad!
Predicted Lineup – Wigan

Note: Steven Sessegnon is currently serving a suspension for his yellow card. At the time of writing it is unknown if Will Aimson’s 3 match ban can come to end because he missed out in the cup.

Curtis’ Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-0 Peterborough United
💭“While Wigan have shown plenty of grit and organisation in recent games, goals have been harder to come by since the opening-day win over Northampton. That shortage of some key players means this could be another tight contest, but with home advantage and slightly renewed confidence after midweek, I’m backing the Latics to edge it 1-0.”
Charlie’s Prediction: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Peterborough United
💭”A few key players remain out of action for Wigan, but I feel if we can somewhat replicate that performance versus Northampton, their isn’t any reason we can’t get the +3, plenty of talent just need to find the goal.”

ChatGPT: Wigan Athletic 1-0 Peterborough United
💭 “I’m tipping a close, low-scoring affair with Wigan edging it 1–0. The Latics home strength and Peterborough’s early-season struggles set the stage for a tight encounter—but Wigan’s greater cohesion and attacking edge could just be decisive.”
Grok: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Peterborough United
💭 “Wigan’s strong home record and recent head-to-head dominance, combined with Peterborough’s poor start to the season, suggest Wigan will edge out a narrow victory in a competitive match.”
