Paul Mullin’s Early Penalty Sends Latics into Round Two
Wigan Athletic secured their place in the Carabao Cup Second Round with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Notts County at the Brick Community Stadium on Tuesday, 12 August 2025 – the first time Latics have progressed past this stage since 2021.
The decisive moment came inside the opening ten minutes. Paul Mullin, cool as you like, stepped up from the spot and tucked his penalty away, sparking an early roar from the home crowd.
From that point on, Ryan Lowe’s side showed defensive grit and discipline, keeping County at arm’s length. The Magpies pressed for a way back into the game, but Latics’ backline stood tall to see the job through.
The victory reflects a strong early-season mentality and gives Wigan valuable momentum heading into the next round.
Away End Atmosphere
Despite the result, Notts County’s travelling support made themselves heard from start to finish. Backed by a sea of green in the North Stand, the away fans kept the chants flowing, proving why they’re known for their loyal following on the road.
