Wigan have had very little business to brag about so far this January transfer window, with the only real stories being Mullin’s return to Wrexham & the capture of young Runcorn Linnets prospect, Adam Moseley. With no targets publicly released, or many rumours to go on, it makes me wonder just how much business we’ll get done.
However, rumours are linking us to a certain player, & that man, is Aberdeen’s Kusini Yengi. The Australian International was the host of plenty of praise during his spell with former EFL League One & current EFL Championship side Portsmouth FC, but both parties agreed he would leave as a free agent, after his contract expired at the end of the 24/25 campaign. Since joining Aberdeen, the Aussie has struggled to meet expecation, & has reportedly been offered a way out by the Scottish outfit, & it’s a potential chance to return to England and recapture his previous form.
Let’s take a thorough look at Yengi’s career path, to this date:
Youth career:
Fulham United | 2011-2014
SA NTC | 2014-2015
Adelaide Comets | 2015-2018
Senior career:
Adelaide United | 2018-2022
Western Sydney Wanderers | 2022-2023
Portsmouth | 2023-2025
Aberdeen | 2025-Present
Career stats:

The stats have clearly dropped off over the last 18 months, but a return to England could be just exactly what Kusini needs!
Wigan don’t stand alone in the interest, alongside the Latics, stand Blackpool, Rotherham, Stevenage & Stockport, and even League Two outfit Gillingham are involved. Any deal, is likely to be of a short-term loan, with Aberdeen reportedly not being willing to sell him on the cheap.
Overall, I feel these rumours do usually go nowhere, but all we can do is wait and see, and if Yengi does end up in WN5 then he will be welcomed with open arms.
