Wigan Athletic is delighted to confirm the appointment of Ryan Lowe as the Clubโs new Head Coach! #wafc
Wigan Athletic have officially appointed Ryan Lowe as their new first-team manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal, marking a significant move as the club looks to push further away from the League One relegation zone in the closing stages of the season.
Lowe arrives at The Brick Community Stadium following his departure from Preston North End earlier this season, having managed just one game in the 2024/25 campaign. He brings with him a strong reputation in the EFL, known for his success in securing promotions and implementing an attacking style of play.
A Proven Winner in the EFL
The 46-year-old boasts an impressive track record, guiding Bury and Plymouth Argyle to promotion from League Two before stabilising Preston in the Championship over three seasons. His attacking philosophy, often built around a 3-5-2 system, has seen his teams play a high-intensity and entertaining brand of football, something Wigan fans will no doubt welcome.
His first media clips from the club are expected to be released on Thursday. But he did say the following to the club in hsi announcement article:
Iโm pleased to be here because itโs a fantastic Football Club with history and tradition. The Club has had some good times and some bad times, and Iโm here to bring the good times back. Hopefully we can have the Brick bouncing every Saturday afternoon and Tuesday evening.
โIโm really excited about the project and I liked what the Ownership Group had to say. They showed me the vision of the Football Club and talked about getting the Club back to where it belongs – and the first target is to get to the Championship.โ
โWeโve got to take short, mid and then long term steps to get there. Weโve got a vision and a plan, which is the most important thing. If we all buy into that plan and vision, Iโm sure we will be successful.
โIโm really excited for the future and to build Wigan Athletic back to where they should be.” – Ryan Lowe
What Can Wigan Expect Under Lowe?
His managerial record backs up his credentials. Across his spells with Bury, Plymouth, and Preston, Lowe has taken charge of 334 matches, securing 138 wins, 79 draws, and 117 lossesโan overall win percentage of 41%.
A Fresh Start for Wigan Athletic
Loweโs arrival signals the beginning of a new chapter for Wigan, with the club aiming to return to the Championship in the coming seasons. With his proven track record, clear tactical identity, and long-term commitment, he arrives with the ambition to make an immediate impact.
His first game in charge comes next week, setting the tone for the remainder of the season. The Latics fanbase will be eager to see how quickly Lowe can stamp his mark on the squad and deliver results on the pitch.
Wigan Athletic have made a bold move in securing a manager with a strong EFL pedigreeโnow, itโs time to see if Ryan Lowe can lead the club back to where they belong.
