Wigan

Match Preview: Leyton Orient vs Wigan Athletic

Date: Saturday, April 5, 2025 Kick-off: 3:00 PM Venue: Brisbane Road

Current Standings and Recent Form

Wigan Athletic: 18th

Wigan approach this game coming off the back off, a narrow 0-1 defeat to fierce rivals Bolton Wanderers, conceding in the 90+2′ minute, quite frankly, the worst circumstances. Things were then made worse after manager, Ryan Lowe, was sent off for his touchline antics, meaning he will be sat on the sidelines for this weekend’s game. It’s fair to say the fanbase aren’t at all happy at the moment, and things certainly need changing.

Leyton Orient: 10th

Leyton Orient go into this game, coming off the back off a surprising 2-1 defeat to relegation fighting, Burton Albion. It’s fair to say that Orient have exceeded expectation this season, and were by no means expected to be in such a comfortable league position, currently only 4 points from the playoffs. Going into this game Richie Wellens side will no doubt be expecting 3 points.

Head-to-Head Record

Wigan Athletic vs. Leyton Orient—there’s no closer rivalry in the stats. With 7 wins each and 7 draws, this fixture is as finely balanced as it gets. Every meeting has been a battle, and with both teams desperate for points, expect another fiercely contested showdown at Brisbane Road.

Predicted Lineup – Wigan:

Match Predictions

Curtis’ Prediction: Leyton Orient 2-1 Wigan Athletic

💭 I think we are capable of scoring. However, it cannot be overshadowed that our defending is certainly not up there, especially after the late conceeding of a goal on Tuesday. I think that there certainly needs to be more action going forward, otherwise I’d be tempted to say it’ll be a repeat of the reverse fixture in terms of the scoreline (0-2).

Charlie’s Prediction: Leyton Orient 2 – 0 Wigan Athletic

💭 Facing a team that are much better than us, and going forward we aren’t making enough happen. This will be a tough game from start to finish and one in which I sadly think Leyton Orient will dominate possession and go forward with swagger.
