- Wigan
Northampton Town will host Wigan Athletic at Sixfields on Saturday, May 3, 2025, on the last game of the 24/25 season. Wigan come into this game with their 7 game unbeaten streak thanks to Ronan Darcy’s last minute equaliser at Burton Albion.
Current Standings and Recent Form
Northampton Town : 19th
It’s been a very difficult season for Northampton, who have evidently struggled on the pitch and who have of course only stayed up with games to spare. After the resignation of Jon Brady, Kevin Nolan took over on December 23rd and since then to now his record after 24 games, sits at: W – 7 , D – 8 , L – 9. On paper not the worst record, however it’s fair to say that the league placement doesn’t back that up and in their last match they were beaten 0-3 to relegation bound Crawley Town. Going into this game there definitely more than capable of getting a result of some sort.
Wigan Athletic 16th:
It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for Wigan Athletic, with a couple of highs but mainly lows, but Ryan Lowe has been brought in to fix that going into 25/26. In Wigan’s last match it saw us draw against Burton Albion, in which the score was 1-1 and it took a 96th minute equaliser from Ronan Darcy to get us level, and it was some finish from the no.10. Going into this match I don’t see much changing on the lineup front or even tactically, but regardless of Northampton’s form or season not a game to take lightly.
Head-to-Head Record
Wigan Wins: 21
Draws: 13
Northampton Wins: 6
Players to Watch
Wigan Athletic:
- Sam Tickle – Consistent as ever for Sam, as he time and time again comes to Wigan’s rescues defensively.
- James Carragher – A MOTM performance vs Burton, and also served as captain, he will be one to watch!
- Toby Sibbick – Finally playing in his natural position and we certainly saw some hard work from Sibbick, and he think he will be huge under Ryan Lowe.
- Ronan Darcy – A 90+6 minute equaliser versus Burton and what I’m sure will be the first of many!

Curtis’ Prediction: Northampton Town 1-1 Wigan Athletic
💭“I do believe that we are more than capable of winning this due to our historical dominance over them. However, I do also think that we were lucky to get a point at Burton on Tuesday courtesy of Darcy’s last minute winner. With this in mind, I think that we could be capable of getting a goal against them but I do feel that in a good chunk of games this season the opposition can usually end up getting one back or if not beating us so I am going for 1-1 as that’s how we did in this fixture last season.”
Charlie’s Prediction: Northampton Town 0-1 Wigan Athletic
💭”” It’s been the case for most of the season, that Wigan win games by narrow margins, and I genuinely think that this is how tomorrow will go and I back either Dale Taylor or Ronan Darcy to bag the only goal.

ChatGPT: Northampton Town 1–2 Wigan Athletic
“Wigan Athletic has a strong historical record against Northampton Town, including recent victories such as a 2-1 win in November 2024. Despite Wigan’s average away form this season, Northampton’s inconsistent home performance suggests Wigan may edge this match.”
Grok: Northampton Town 0-1 Wigan Athletic
“Wigan’s solid defensive form should edge out a struggling Northampton side at Sixfields on May 3, 2025.”
