Wigan Athletic went into the January transfer window knowing improvements were needed after a difficult first half of the season, as recent months have found results getting them nearer to the relegation zone. With results inconsistent and pressure mounting, January felt like a crucial chance to reset. However, have we had chance to do that or has this window been a complete farce?
Outgoings
1) Chris Sze

Chris has already found early form in Non League, he’s certainly taking his opportunity, and looks to of found his level.
2) Ronan Darcy

12 months later, & Ronan Darcy ends up back where he came from, a return to Crawley, which I’m sure he was happy with. It’s fair to say his move to Wigan didn’t quite work out, and I could see this becoming a permanent arrangement.

3) Tobias Brenan

Brenan gets a big opportunity in League 2 at a struggling Harrogate. Good business from Wigan here, and I hope it works out for Tobias.

Incomings
1) Joe Taylor

The first of Wigan’s January additions was Joe Taylor. He joins from fellow League One rivals Huddersfield Town on a loan deal until the end of the 25/26 season. This move appeared to address the fact that Wigan cut Paul Mullin’s loan short. The main appeal of this signing is that he’s got experience at this level and the fact that in previous seasons he’s averaged a 6-7 match rating. Among supporters, this signing was viewed as a positive one as many welcomed him with opening arms depsite the facts he’s only here on a 6 month loan.

2) Owen Moxon

Midfielder Owen Moxon joined on loan for the remainder of the season from fellow League One side, Stockport County. His arrival was perfect timing, with the recurring fitness issues ongoing between both Baba Adeeko & Tyrese Francois, and also the poor performances being showcased by our very own Jensen Weir. Moxon’s profile really sticks out to me, and he feels the ideal player for a Ryan Lowe system.

3) Jack Hunt

EFL Veteran Jack Hunt joined on deadline day, a full back, who’s had his fair share of impressive spells with both Bristol City & Sheffield Wednesday. As of now, I assume he will be deployed as a Right winger-back, closely resembling his usual right back position.

4) Caylan Vickers

Exciting & versatile winger, Caylan Vickers also joined on deadline day, this time from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion. Vickers impressed on loan at Barnsley during the first half of this campaign, where he appeared frequently and delivered some good data. Overall my personal favourite signing of the window.
