Young forward Harry McHugh has penned a new one-year contract extension at Wigan Athletic, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026 — with the option of a further year.
The 21-year-old, who came through the Latics academy, has been part of the setup since under-13 level and continues to work hard to break into the first-team picture.
💬 A Familiar Face Sticking Around
McHugh made his senior debut for Wigan back in 2020 and scored his first senior goal in the EFL Trophy against Tranmere Rovers — a game many fans will remember as a big moment for the youngster.
Since then, he’s had spells out on loan at Chester and Ayr United to gain experience, and now finds himself back at the DW as part of Ryan Lowe’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
👀 What This Means
While McHugh may not yet be a regular starter, this contract shows the club still sees promise in him — and many fans will be hoping to see more of him in pre-season and cup matches.
With Wigan looking to build a squad that blends youth and experience, keeping hold of academy graduates like McHugh is a smart move — and another sign that the pathway from youth football to the first team is still alive and well at Latics.
