Wigan Athletic have made their first move of the summer transfer window, bringing in striker Dara Costelloe from Burnley on a two-year deal.
The 21-year-old forward arrives at the Brick Community Stadium looking to kickstart his career with regular football after spending the last few seasons gaining experience on loan, including spells at Bradford City and St Johnstone.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Costelloe said:
“I’m buzzing to be here. It’s a big club with a clear plan, and I can’t wait to get started. I want to bring energy, hard work, and hopefully goals to this team.”
Costelloe came through the ranks at Galway United before earning a move to Burnley in 2021. He made his Premier League debut for the Clarets in August 2022, and while first-team opportunities were limited at Turf Moor, his loan spells gave him valuable minutes in both League Two and the Scottish Premiership.
Latics boss Ryan Lowe has been busy shaping his squad for the new campaign, and Costelloe’s arrival adds a fresh attacking option to the frontline. His pace, work rate, and direct style should fit perfectly into Maloney’s system, and with the right support, he could become a real handful for League One defences.
It’s another smart move from the club, investing in young, hungry players ready to make their mark.
Welcome to Wigan, Dara!
