Latics struck first in the 28th minute when Fraser Murray marked his debut with a crisp volley following a pinpoint cross from Joseph Hungbo. Just six minutes later, Wigan doubled their lead—Jensen Weir rising highest from a corner to head home the second.
Second Half
Wigan came out flying after the break. Within two minutes, Murray added his second of the game, calmly slotting home to make it 3–0 and all but seal the result. Northampton grabbed a consolation on 70 minutes through Michael Forbes’ header, but the outcome was never in doubt.
