MATCH REPORT: WIGAN ATHLETIC VS WYCOMBE WANDERERS

Match Overview / Performance Analysis
It was a miserable Saturday afternoon for Wiganers, as Michael Duff’s out of form Wycombe gained some confidence with a win over Ryan Lowe’s out of form Latics. A defeat that moves Wigan down into 17th and Wycombe move only slightly up to 19th.
Performance
From kickoff towards the quarter of an hour mark Wigan looked lively, with positive link ups from Raphael, Fraser Murray and Christian Saydee, but this was short lived, and as the first half progressed it’s fair to say we dominated possession but struggled to create any concrete chances, and after to much sloppiness in possession Wycombe were able to force a quick break and force the ball out wide with, Fred Onyedinma crossing the ball across the face of goal and finding Sam Bell, who simply had to tap it in, giving Wycombe a 0-1 lead in the 35th Minute. The final 10 minutes were of no good and we found ourselves trailing at the break. Before the resume 3 changes were made, as Callum Wright, Dara Costelloe & Joe Hungbo replaced Raphael, Luke Robinson & Paul Mullin, all of whom actually played decently in the first 45. The second half started slowly, lots of aerial duels, and plenty of physical battles in the wide areas of the pitch, our defensive shape stayed consistent and we kept Wycombe very quiet, and it wasn’t until the final 20 minutes we were able to force problems, with Murray and Hungbo whipping balls into the box, but nothing found it’s way onto the target, the best chance of the game came in the 5th minute of injury time as Dara Costelloe found himself 1v1 against Will Norris but he was unable to find the goal and the ball rebounded off Norris’s hip, and he caught the rebound. The match ending Wigan 0-1 Wycombe.
Wigan Athletic Player Ratings
Sam Tickle: 6.5/10 – Quite Literally had nothing to do today, and didn’t get the chance to put a foot wrong.
Will Aimson: – 5.5/10 – Aimson’s form and lack of aggression worries me at times, he can definitely improve.
Steven Sessegnon: – 5/10 – Sess is not a Centre Back. Time and time again we play Sess as a centre back and it baffles me.
Jason Kerr: – 6.5/10 – Wasn’t bad, hard to criticise him today.
Matt Smith: – 6.5/10 – Played well today in that box-to-box role he seems to be a real handful.
Fraser Murray: – 6.5/10 – Time and time again he’s a handful, willing to take on defenders, he’s really lively going forward.
Oliver Cooper: – 6/10 – Didn’t do a massive amount today, showcased a decent range of passing.
Raphael Borges: – 6.5/10 – Had a decent and lively first half, shouldn’t of been subbed at half time.
Luke Robinson: – 6/10 – Get’s alot of stick this lad, but he’s one of the best man markers in the league.
Paul Mullin: – 6/10 – Tried but struggled.
Christian Saydee: – 6/10 – Lively in the first half, but struggled in the second.
(Substitutes)
Raphael Borges Rodrigues: – 6/10 – Came on with not long to go, tried his best to get a chance on goal.
