First Half
The opening stages were tight, with both sides struggling to carve out clear-cut chances. Wigan pressed with intent but had to stay alert at the back as Port Vale looked to threaten on the counter.
The game’s major talking point came late in the first half when Wigan were reduced to ten men following a red card. It could have been a moment that swung the match against them, but instead, it seemed to light a fire under the Latics.
Second Half
Wigan came out fighting after the break, refusing to let the setback dictate the tempo. Just before the hour mark, they found the breakthrough! A moment of determination and sharp finishing that sent The Brick into raptures.
From then on, it was all about discipline and heart. The ten men defended brilliantly, closing down space and putting bodies on the line whenever Port Vale pushed forward. The visitors never truly looked like finding a way through as Latics saw out a memorable 1–0 win.
