Wigan

Match Preview | Burton Albion vs Wigan Athletic | EFL League One

After boxing day’s misfortunes the Latics are on the road yet again with a trip to Burton in store, and it’s fair to say confidence is low in the Wigan Athletic camp.

Burton Albion: 15th

It’s been a similar season for Burton as it has for Wigan, with lots of inconsistency, and manager Gary Bowyer has done enough to keep them out of the relegation zone upto this point. In their last 5 league outings, they’ve accumulated 5 points out of a possible 15, and last time out it was a memorable 5-1 thrashing over a similarly matched Northampton Town. Going into tomorrow’s match Burton’s confidence should be at an all time high, and Wigan will be on high alert for Burton talisman, Tyrese Shade.

Wigan Athletic: 18th

The Latic’s tasted defeat yet again on Boxing day, after last minute heartbreak at Valley Parade, as Joe Wright sealed the +3 for Bradford. Ryan Lowe’s recent displays & antics have caused lot’s of dispute within the Wigan fanbase of late, and time feels like it’s running out for him, with the Latics time & time again disappointing. This one feels like a must win in my opinion, given the fact we’ve lost the last two.

Head-to-Head Record

Wigan Wins: 4

Draws: 6

Blackpool Wins: 4

Predicted Lineup – Wigan

Overall, with the suspended players, we reckon Dara Costelloe will drop into an attacking midfield role, and a start for Tyrese Francois in CDM

Injuries and Suspensions

Jensen Weir – Suspended after picking up a red card versus Bradford City

Matt Smith – Suspended after picking up a red card versus Bradford City

Jason Kerr – Kneecap issue (May require surgery, but Lowe says he will be monitored closely over Christmas)

Baba Adeeko – Just as he returned to back into first team training he has suffered another big knock, as has required more surgery, very unfortunate for Baba.

Ryan Trevitt –

Curtis’ Prediction: Burton Albion 0-0 Wigan Athletic

💭“Wigan just aren’t good enough here at the moment, and I think Ryan Lowe will play very defensive in the hope of a 0-0.”

Charlie’s Prediction: Burton Albion 1-0 Wigan Athletic

💭”I physically cannot see Wigan getting a result here, our confidence is shot to pieces & Burton are going to be feeling confident after Boxing day’s huge result.”

Fan comments:

Paddy (Wigan fan) – 💭 “This is definitely a much needed 3 points.”

Kev (Wigan fan) – 💭 “We have far to many players who were playing well earlier in the season but their form has dipped badly, but it’s up to the manager to motivate his players.”

Jeffrey Taylor (Member of Wigan Athletic Supporters Club) -💭 “We are currently in free fall.”

Lee (Wigan fan) – 💭 “Hope that we get a referee who actually knows what day of the week it is and doesn’t spoil the game.

Cal (Wigan fan) – 💭 “Be a tough game but it’s a game we need 3 points from to start climbing up the table again.”

Morgan (Wigan fan) – 💭” We are the definition of inconsistent so I’m not expecting any gains from this match, at this point we are walking into league two. I’m going to say 0-0 because we are so bad and Burton will probably be the better team our only saving grace will Super Sam Tickle.
