Match Overview / Performance Analysis
Wigan Athletic secured an important victory at the Brick Community Stadium as they defeated Exeter City 2–0 in Sky Bet League One.
Performance
The Latics made the perfect start and took the lead inside the opening five minutes. Fraser Murray delivered an excellent cross from the left, and Joe Taylor rose highest in the box to head the ball past the goalkeeper and give Wigan an early advantage.
After the early goal, Wigan looked organised and disciplined defensively, limiting Exeter’s chances while continuing to threaten going forward. Exeter saw more of the ball at times, but the Latics remained compact and controlled the key moments of the first half.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides battling in midfield and chances at a premium. As the game entered the closing stages, Wigan managed to seal the result in dramatic fashion. Fraser Murray’s corner in the 84th minute flew all the way into the net, doubling the lead and effectively securing all three points for the hosts.
The win was a significant one for Wigan, lifting them above Exeter in the table and moving them further clear of the relegation zone as the League One season continues.
Wigan saw the game out professionally in the final minutes to complete a solid 2–0 victory and continue their push up the table.
