Latics Battle to Hard-Fought Draw at Wycombe
Wigan Athletic secured a well-earned point on the road against promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers, battling to a goalless draw at Adams Park. Shaun Maloney’s side showed defensive resilience to frustrate the second-placed hosts, limiting them to just two shots on target.
A Defensive Masterclass
Latics stuck with the same starting XI that earned a draw at Crawley Town in midweek, with Luke Robinson returning to the matchday squad. The Tics defended superbly throughout, with Sam Tickle producing a standout performance between the sticks to keep Wycombe at bay.
The home side came close to opening the scoring inside two minutes, as a header back across goal found Caleb Taylor, whose close-range effort was denied brilliantly by Tickle. Shortly after, Josh Scowen’s volley clipped the top of the crossbar as Wycombe looked to pile on early pressure.
Despite a quiet first half in terms of attacking opportunities, Latics found joy on the flanks through Joe Hungbo and Owen Dale, while Dale Taylor worked tirelessly up top but found himself crowded out at key moments.
Second-Half
The first real chance after the restart fell to Wycombe’s Cameron Humphreys, whose low-driven strike was smartly kept out by Tickle. Wigan then had their best effort of the match as Dale’s deflected shot forced Wycombe keeper Will Norris into action.
Wycombe pressed forward in the latter stages, with Fred Onyedinma twice going close—first being denied by Tickle before firing just wide in stoppage time. However, Latics stood firm to claim a valuable point on the road.
