Wigan

Match Preview | Wigan Athletic vs Stevenage

Wigan are back at home this Saturday, for the first time in what feels like ages and this weekends gathering see’s the Latics welcome Stevenage to the Brick, a side exceeding expectations in their respected campaign. This fixture is sure to test both sides, both mentally and physically. Wigan’s form is on the rise, without defeat since the 11th of October, but countless draws have disappointed fans, although, a win last weekend versus Wimbledon has really raised morale in and around the club. Stevenage have really lost that spark they had over the last few weeks, with sucessive defeats, for the first in a while, but their form was rekindled in midweek with a victory over Peterborough.

Wigan Athletic: 15th

The Latic’s fortunes were struggling to fix themselves, with successive draws versus, Mansfield, Hemel Hempstead, & Exeter. However, luck was on their side last Saturday, as we witnessed Wigan’s first away win of the 25/26 campaign & and only Ryan Lowe’s second since taking charge in March, a 1-2 win over Wimbledon at the Cherry-Red-Records stadium, a match in which we saw potential history in the making as 18 Year-Old Harrison Bettoni netted a stunning free kick aswell as a pearler from the edge of the box, earning him the brace, aswell as Man of the Match, in only his first league appearance. Going into Saturday, it’s one in which Wigan should be up for, however our inconsistency is at an all time high, and this is a match we could very easily end up losing, but we will have to wait and see.

Stevenage: 1st

Stevenage have certainly surprised the EFL community so far, and sitting in 1st, it’s been quite the campaign so far for Alex Revell’s side. Midweek was yet another huge win for the side, with victory over Peterborough thanks to a Jamie Reid penalty, but prior to this, there had been a slight rift in the side’s form with only 1 win in the last 5, and that rift did cause some concern within the fanbase, but after midweek, the fans will be hopeful their team can make it two wins in two.

Head-to-Head Record

Wigan Wins: 1

Draws: 1

Stevenage Wins: 2

Predicted Lineup – Wigan

A slightly altered lineup from the weekend, we’d like to see James Carragher given the start over Will Aimson, mainly cause we prefer him as a player. A slightly more bold take, we expect Paul Mullin & Harrison Bettoni to take over as starting strikers after their impressive linkup coming off the bench, and Bettoni’s performance alone should earn him the start.

Injuries & Suspensions

Baba Adeeko | (Hamstring injury) – It’s a 50/50 on whether or not Baba will return, and if he was I would not expect him to start.

Ryan Trevitt | (Thigh Injury) – Only recently had surgery, expected to face a lengthy spell on the side lines. Honestly a massive loss.

Joe Hungbo | (Hamstring injury – expected to be out until new year) – He’s a massive loss, but I have faith we will be able to manage without him.

Curtis’ Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-1 Stevenage

💭“Wigan’s home form in the league has been strong, but Stevenage have started well too and still have games in hand, so their position doesn’t flatter them. With our injury issues, a comfortable win feels unlikely, but there’s enough quality in the side to take something from the game. A draw seems a fair shout.”

Charlie’s Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-1 Stevenage

💭”As mentioned earlier, our form has been far to consistent this season, and I just can’t anything more than the points being shared.”

Fan Score Predictions:

Coby Riley: Wigan Athletic 1-1 Stevenage

💭”Stevenage are a solid team under ex Latic player Alex Revell and I think we are capable of securing a draw”.

Morgan Lancaster: Wigan 0-2 Stevenage

💭”I reckon it will be a game between two teams with different reasons for wanting the 3 points for Stevenage to extend their lead at the top and for Wigan to get more points in what has so far been an inconsistent season. My prediction is sadly (for Wigan fans) a 2-0 loss I just don’t think we can manage the striking force of Jamie Reid enough to not stop them winning”.

Paul Ashworth: Wigan 1-1 Stevenage

💭”Will be a hard game for Wigan given their current form.”

Ash from Talking Tics: Wigan 1-1 Stevenage

💭”Stevenage are currently sitting top of the table so it will be a hard fought game, of course I want to win so if we could sneak a 1 nil win that would be even better, bring on super sub Harrison Bettoni and see what happens 🤞 Up the tics 🔵⚪”

Bob Ohara: Wigan 1-0 Stevenage

💭”Nervy 1-0 win as they [Stevenage] only scored a penalty to win against Peterborough on Tuesday.”

Trevor Silcock: Wigan 0-2 Stevenage

💭”Heart says Wigan win, head says 2-0 loss”
